It was a breezy and cool evening. Nurse Zainab paced her study, occasionally sipping from her cherished mug—a gift from her mother on her wedding day. It was the sole precious item remaining in her life, a life now on the verge of shattering like her marriage, crashing into the sea of despair.
Once upon a time, Haidar embodied sweetness, gentleness, and love. They met at the teaching hospital where Zainab was interning. She always referred to him as "dreamy," a name that brought a smile before the weight of their current situation returned. Haidar was tall, slightly fair, and had the most captivating smile. He was a comforting presence, always ready to listen. Those were the qualities that made her fall for him—the qualities that seemed distant now.
She couldn't forget how he had professed his feelings, bringing tears of joy. But now, his gaze radiated an unfamiliar, intense hatred for her—a change stemming from their inability to conceive. This wasn't the man she knew; the Haidar she loved believed in God's will. However, it had been seven years since her last miscarriage, and the absence of a child had eroded his hope. He bore the weight of childlessness as his own failure, projecting anger onto her. Did he understand her pain? Did he even care about her emotional turmoil?
Perhaps he did, but desperation had clouded his empathy. What tortured Zainab most was her inability to stop loving him, even when he caused her immense pain. A solitary tear escaped her weary eyes. She had held onto her strength for too long, but now the dam was breaking. She wished there was a way to fulfill his desires within the boundaries of Islam.
The ache in her heart grew as she yearned for the Haidar of the past. She longed to see his loving smile and feel his comforting presence. As she clutched the mug, a wave of determination surged within her. She would find a way—a solution that would mend their relationship while staying true to their beliefs.
In the quiet of the room, she vowed to herself: she would seek counsel, explore options, and bridge the gap that had driven them apart. Their love was too valuable to let go, even when tested by the trials of life.
With renewed strength, Zainab wiped away her tears and took a deep breath. The coffee in her mug had grown cold, but her resolve burned bright. She placed the mug gently on her desk, ready to embark on a journey to rediscover the love they once shared.
